Just wanted to give you a quick reminder about the volumes of live music we offer for free. You can download in flac, mp3, and just about any other file type you can think of. Once on the archive site, you can scroll along the right hand side and find shows that date all the way back to 2008. These are not full shows – these are some of our favorite moments.

Ryan Paul & THE ARDENT – Live Music Archive
12.3.09 at Turf Club with Kid Dakota
11.24.09 at 7th St Entry with Sam Roberts (with a very cool Beck cover)
Metro Magazine 100 Party
… and plenty more

ALSO – Ryan has been posting his “Winter Tapes 2010
These are songs recorded by Ryan in his apartment during the long cold winter in Minneapolis

Once you have got used to some of these live recordings, check the calendar. RP&TA has gone through some changes. So next show may be totally different…

If you were in Minnesota this weekend, you noticed the frigid subzero weather. I tried to pass the time reading and listening to music, but eventually went a bit stir crazy. I was picking through my vinyl and pulled out some Dwight Yoakam records. I decided to pull the minimal resources available and paid tribute to Dwight with my own version of “A Thousand Miles From Nowhere”:

Free download. Pass it on to friends. And check out the other live recordings on that site!

2009 was a pretty wicked year. We are really looking forward to what is in store for 2010. I’ve been meeting with our new manager from Invisible Button Entertainment and she has some amazing ideas for going forward.

We’ve been working on a video project called “Confessions”. I’d like to give you a preview of Part 6.
Here are some of my confessions about La Vita Nuova, my Jimmy Peterson story, and some of my ideas for the next year. Enjoy!

If you missed our show with Kid Dakota at the Turf, we were able to pull a video from that night as well. Some of it kind of cracks me up…

I’d also like to remind you that there are ALWAYS fresh and free live downloads from our “Live Archive” page. You can sample and download in any format you like.

Thanks for the support in 2009!

I have decided to start doing some video taping of shows (pre & post). This was my first attempt. There is some funny stuff there, but I couldn’t  include the pieces in their entirety because I was jerking the camera around so much. I’ll get better at it soon…

Around the 20 second mark – Sam Roberts confesses about his Flip Video recorder…
Around the 44 second mark – Steve Goold confesses about his heavy blog traffic and possible suspicions as to where the hits may be coming from…
Around the 55 second mark is video of the debut of our new song “Slow.Steady”

Sam and his band were really great! It was a lot of fun to play and hang out with them. Sam sent me home with some vinyl and some of his ideas about keeping shows interesting.

Remember, if you would like to download FREE mp3s from this show and others, visit: http://ryanpaulandtheardent.bandcamp.com/

I get to play with two musicians on the near horizon who I am quite fond of. The first is Sam Roberts… (the second will need it’s own blog entry)

Sam is is a Juno Award winning Canadian rock singer-songwriter, whose 2001 debut release, The Inhuman Condition, became one of the bestselling independent releases in Quebec and Canadian music history. He has the COOLEST story!
He was Born in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, to South African parents. He’s trilingual, speaking English, French, and Spanish. He married his high school sweetheart of 13 years.

I’ve been a fan of Sam Roberts since I heard Chemical City in 2006. I know his career spans longer than that. It is unfortunate that we don’t get to hear a lot of the cool Canadian bands in the States (Tragically who?!?).

So… If you haven’t heard Sam Roberts, check out this video:

Then Come See Us At the 7th St. Entry. November 24, 2009.
